Can you believe we are halfway through spring here in South Africa, and the season is in full bloom! Now’s the perfect time to refresh your beauty routine with products that’ll keep your skin glowing and your makeup looking fresh as we head toward those warmer summer days. I enjoyed writing my post on my Autumn picks, so I thought these picks are perfect for helping you embrace that springtime glow!
1. Essence Blush Crush
If I had to tell my 25 year old self that I would be more interested in new blushes then bronzers I would’ve never believed it. But here we are, even going with brighter colours than I had ever dreamt of. Enter the Essence Blush Crush—so affordable and has great pigmentation. I first bought the Pink Pop colour for spring and fell in love with the bright pink.
I’m sure most of you have seen the TikTok where the makeup artist who did the looks for past Victoria Secret’s shows, she explains how instead of pink blush, she uses red to brighten your look. The closest I could find (without spending a fortune) was this Cool Berry shade that is perfect for that sun-kissed look. These blushes are made with vegan ingredients and the packaging is completely recyclable. Available from Dis-Chem or Clicks for R49.99
2. Climaplex Clarifying & Purifying Shampoo
When it comes to haircare, you know I’m obsessed. It floods my FYP on TikTok and I’m forever trying to learn more and try out new tips. One thing that kept popping up was using a clarifying shampoo. This is to help get rid of product buildup. The Climaplex Clarifying & Purifying Shampoo is specifically formulated to cleanse the hair and scalp from pollutants; chlorine; heavy metals; sebum and build-up created by hair products. This particular shampoo smells incredible and leaves my hair feeling soft. It’s made from 97% naturally derived ingredients and its packaging is made from recycled and recyclable plastic.
It is a bit pricey (R260.00 for 250ml) but you only need to use this every other wash. Girl Math. It’s available from Clicks.
3. Dr. Hauschka Tinted Face Sun Cream SPF30
Ah, another day, another product from Dr. Hauschka that I just adore. This Tinted Face Sun Cream is perfect for summer! It’s made up of a unique blend of natural ingredients that provides broad-spectrum sun protection. It’s lightweight yet very hydrating for me. This product contains no synthetic UV filters, no mineral oils, no silicones and no microplastics. Plus it’s water-resistant.
Again, on the pricey side, but a small amount goes a long way. Available online here for R785.00
4. Aviva Castor Oil
Another product that I went down a rabbit hole with because of TikTok – basically the news channel for me, is Castor Oil. I had always known about the benefits for your hair, as you know I’m a big believer in oiling your scalp, but I never knew just how impressive this oil truly is. I first bought a tiny bottle from Dis-Chem but then went on to learn that it needs to be in a glass bottle. I add it to my body cream at night to help with scarring and stretch marks (thank you hormones), so I ended up buying the 200ml glass bottle from the Aviva brand at Dis-Chem for R125.00
5. Moyoko Scalp Brush
Another product I’ve had for a long time, but I end up forgetting, is a scalp massage brush. This soft silicone brush combines a deep cleansing action with the therapeutic benefits of a scalp massage. With 19 soft silicone pins, it helps ensure your scalp is free from dirt and product build-up. The reason I use it, is that it helps promote blood circulation and invigorates hair follicles to encourage hair growth. I try to do it at night as part of my routine.
Available online from Moyoko here or Takealot for R199.00, I’m sure there are cheaper option out there but just sharing which one I have.
Thanks for reading! Let me know if you have tried any of this products or have incorporated them into your Spring beauty routine?
