Easy Ways To Create Less Waste

While being a few days into 2020, I think most people have the goal of less waste. Well, I hope they do because our planet desperately needs it. It can seem daunting wondering where to start so I want to share 4 tips on how you can play your part.

1. REUSABLE BAGS

This is something that I still get so irritated with myself about. I literally have a pile in my boot and sometimes still forget. However, I will say, I am becoming better at remembering them. I just need to get into the habit. It’s also great that some stores are opting for paper bags, but why can’t more stores do this?

2. STRAWS

Why is it 2020 and plastic straws are still around? High five to the establishments that have opted for paper straws. I’ve seen that a lot more restaurants are using steel straws which is amazing as I’m not a fan of a soggy paper straw. I know it’s more pricey but it helps create much less waste. I have two steel straws in my bag for when I’m out and about and use my glass ones at home for when I make my smoothies.

3. REUSABLE COFFEE CUPS

Hands up if you love grabbing a coffee when you’re on the go! A Woolies honey & nut latte with soya milk is my go-to but often I give it a skip if I don’t have my reusable coffee cup with me. The same goes for when I’m at the gym, I skip a smoothie if I don’t have my reusable cup with me. Why are coffee cups so bad? They are designed to only be used once. The lid is plastic but the actual disposable coffee cup doesn’t disintegrate properly.

4. GLASS/METAL WATER BOTTLES

I keep one of the Consol Grip n Go bottles in my gym bag so I can refill it when I’m at the gym and it keeps my water nice and cool. Another win for keeping your water cool throughout the day is a metal bottle – Typo sells such cute ones! I often refill one of my big glass water bottles before heading to work – it also serves as a reminder to stay hydrated. Put your bottles somewhere visible before you leave the house so you’re reminded to fill them up and take them with you.
