Book Reviews for 2025

Share

We’re halfway through the year, and I’ve been making my way through quite a few books—some thrillers, some fantasy, and a few that really surprised me. Whether you’re looking for a bingeable page-turner or something to get you out of a reading slump, here’s a mix of what I’ve read and what I thought. I have posted these on Instagram and TikTok as well.

ps: reading more books is listed as number 1 as one of my goals for 2025 in this blogpost and I’m well on my way to reaching my target. I switch between actual books and books on my kindle as you’ll see on my social media posts where I have photos of the covers of the books.

1. The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen

A fast-paced thriller with great characters and solid twists—I really enjoyed this one from start to finish. If you’re in the mood for something gripping but not too heavy, this is a great pick.

2. The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas

There’s some debate about the best reading order for the Throne of Glass series, but I’m so glad I started with this prequel. It adds so much depth to the series and ties in beautifully once you dive into the main books.

3. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

SJM can honestly do no wrong when it comes to storytelling. This was such a strong start to the series, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how it unfolds.

4. In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware

I gave this one 3/5 stars. It was decent and had some suspenseful moments, but it wasn’t the most memorable read for me.

5. Good Bad Girl by Alice Feeney

This one didn’t fully hook me until the end, so I’d rate it around 3.5/5 stars. If you stick with it, the payoff is there—just a slower burn than I expected.

6. Such a Quiet Place by Megan Miranda

Another slow burn that picked up towards the end. I did enjoy that it was written in first person—I’m learning that I love fast-paced books told from this perspective. It makes it feel more immersive!

7. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

While this book had some crucial moments for the Throne of Glass storyline, it didn’t hit quite as hard for me as some of the other SJM books. Still, an important read if you’re diving into the series.

8. The God of the Woods by Liz Moore

A long, slow-burn thriller—but honestly, it’s worth the time. It has so much depth and builds in a way that feels totally intentional. I completely understand why this book is making so many “best of” lists this year.

9. Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

Now this is where the series really takes off. More of the overall plot falls into place, and the action kicks up a level. I’m officially invested.

10. 13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough

A dark, twisty thriller that I flew through! It’s the kind of book you pick up “just to read a chapter” and find yourself still reading hours later. Binge-worthy and sharp.

Have you read any of these? Or added them to your TBR list? I’d love to know your thoughts—or any recommendations you have for what I should read next!
