Franschhoek in Western Cape, South Africa
Just a short drive from Cape Town will lead you to the beautiful little town of Franschhoek. Know as the wine capital of South Africa, Franschhoek is a must-see for a first-time tourist or even a seasoned local. I was recently hosted for 2 nights at Maison Montagne and I wanted to let you know a bit more about my stay.
Maison Montange In Franschhoek
Nestled on the slopes of the Franschhoek mountains, you’ll find the exquisite Maison Montagne Boutique Hotel. Recently renovated, this boutique hotel was once a house but was turned into elegantly styled suites. Situated on the property of Dieu Donne Vineyards, you’ll have scenic views of the Franschhoek valley. The last time I was in Franschhoek was to have lunch at Leopard’s Leap. So I was looking forward to spending a bit more time in the little town.
Your Home Away From Home
My arrival at Maison Montagne was met with a very warm welcome. I immediately felt relaxed and just knew it was going to be an amazing stay. I arrived a bit earlier than check-in but this was no problem for the team at all. The offered me a wine tasting at Dieu Donne while my room was having it’s finishing touches added.
Being on the same property as Dieu Donne, it’s literally a few steps away from the hotel which is really ideal. So ideal in fact that my mom and I even went back the next day to enjoy the views and sip on their wines. We enjoyed them so much that we even ordered a few bottles of their Blush from their Botanical range as well as their Brut Rose MCC to be couriered back up to Pretoria!
Vert Boutique Vineyard Suite
It was exceptionally fitting that I stayed in the Vert room. Vert means green in French. Our room was so beautiful! I loved all the small touches. I also really appreciated that even though the colour scheme was green-based, it wasn’t in your face green. They brought in elements of emeralds and darker greens.
The room has the following features:V
- Twin or King bed extra length (2 metres)
- En-suite bathroom with heated towel rails & underfloor heating (walk-in shower only; no bath)
- Air conditioning and Both cooling & Heating
- Mini Bar, Tea & Coffee making facilities
- Electronic safe
- Smart TV, Netflix & Youtube
- Wireless internet connection
- Private Garden area (no view from the room)
- Ground Floor Suite
What I loved about the room was the fact that they put so much thought into all aspects. Such as dark face clothes specifically for removing your makeup; USB ports next to your bed; info sheets on everything included in your stay! I know my fellow beauties will appreciate the makeup face clothest. Plus I love the matte black fittings in the bathrooms. I honestly believe that personal touches make a huge difference.
Perks Of Staying At Maison Montagne
Apart from the inclusive wine tasting at Dieu Donne, you also get the most delicious breakfast. A selection of fresh fruits; cereals; hams; cheeses and mouth-watering pastries with freshly squeezed orange juice. Along with your cappuccino, you have the selection of a hot breakfast. Yum yum! There is a pool that looks out onto the hills of the valley as well as reading nooks on the patio and in the lounge.
If you don’t feel like straying far from the property, I can highly recommend ROCA for a meal.
Actually, Franschhoek is not only for wine lovers but is definitely foodie heaven as well.
Last Bits Of Information
Price-wise, you’re looking at about R2870 to R3500 for a Standard En Suite Vineyard Room, I think that the off-peak season will be a bit cheaper. I asked the manager what Franschhoek is like in winter and he said that with each passing year, the weather becomes more pleasant. I could definitely see myself visiting again in the colder months and curling up by the fire sipping on some wine.
Although I was very kindly hosted by Maison Montagne, please note that all of these views are my own. You can see on my Cape Town highlight on my Instagram what a great time I had.
A huge thank you to Clint for everything he did – as well as his fantastic team. They really were phenomenal in every aspect. So again, a big thank you! For more information, pop over to their website to make your booking for a few nights away!
