In July, a group of friends and I headed to the foothills of Southern Drakensberg in KwaZulu Natal for a long weekend in Underberg. Nestled in the mountains and right on the doorstep of a beautiful lake, we made the Valley Lakes Cottages our home for 4 awesome nights.
We braai’d every night and then moved inside to hang out by the indoor fire place; spent each day either checking out the lakes; hiking or finding new fishing areas. We even spent a day horse riding up a mountain, yes a mountain!
On our last night, we headed into the town of Underberg to catch the final of the Euro Cup 2016 final. Let’s just say, having 3 Portuguese friends there when Portugal won the cup was priceless.
Below are a few of the photos I took while I was there.
View from our cottage; of the streams that led to the lake on our doorstep and of our cottage.
View of the lake from a small hike we did.
Shots from exploring some of the farms of Underberg to find some fish. We sat on the bank and were surrounded by all these cattle, it was amazing.
Captured the beautiful fog rolling in one morning.
We went to Bushman’s Nek for the horseback riding and it’s definitely a resort I want to stay at the next time I visit Underberg, it looks fantastic and has so much to offer!
I really had such a lovely long weekend with my dear friends, the friends that will last a lifetime with memories to always cherish from adventures like these. Can’t wait till we plan our next trip!
