England – May 2019
At the end of May, I headed to England for a girls trip. The reason we went, was to fulfill our childhood fantasy of watching the Spice Girls live in concert. It honestly was one of the best nights of my life! We booked tickets for the show in Manchester so I spent the night before the concert with my friend Dominique at her family’s place in Bury.
Bury, Greater Manchester
Bury is a charming little town in Greater Manchester, England. It’s East of Bolton, southwest of Rochdale and northwest of Manchester. The first thing I noticed when we drove from the train station was just how incredibly lush the landscape was. As a place that gets a lot of rain, it’s so green! I think coming from dry Pretoria, it made such an impact on me.
Having such limited time there, we spent most of the day relaxing after our long flight but later in the day went on a beautiful walk around the town. Even stopping for a sneaky drink at some of the pubs.
Manchester
A 30-minute car ride from Bury and we made our way to Manchester. Fun fact about me, I’ve always been a huge fan of Manchester United. I used to have Man Utd backpack that I used for school. I really wish I had had more time so I could’ve gone to go visit Old Trafford. We had lunch at a pub in the city and then it was time to get ready for the concert.
We stayed in an apartment called Modo Living. I was so impressed with the apartment, it was clean; modern and aesthetically pleasing plus we received great service from them as we asked to check in early so we could get ready. The best part was we could walk to the Etihad Stadium where the concert was being held. So it was really convenient. Plus it was a short Uber ride to get to the train station. Another perk? It was so well priced! So if you’re looking for accommodation in Manchester, I highly recommend them.
Spice Girls
Man, oh, man. How does one even describe seeing a childhood dream come true in front of your eyes? We truly had an incredible evening. It was so well organized and the stadium was beautiful. Even though Victoria Beckham wasn’t there – the 4 powerhouse ladies did an amazing job. I just love them so much!
