With a worldwide movement of people becoming more aware of their plastics usage, using a bamboo toothbrush is a great step in living a more sustainable lifestyle. Billions of people all using plastic toothbrushes (usually 4 a year as it’s recommended to change every 3 months) leads to billions of toothbrushes in landfills and our oceans.
What are the benefits of switching to a bamboo toothbrush?
The Earth Brush, which I’ve been using lately, is made from Moso bamboo. This bamboo is grown naturally, without any added chemicals or pesticides of any kind. This natural plant-based material is totally biodegradable and can even be composted. Bamboo is a sustainable material and grows quickly, plus it’s actually naturally antimicrobial. So you don’t have to worry about bacteria on your handle. The nylon bristles are easily recyclable.
Reusing Old Toothbrushes
You can easily re-use old toothbrushes instead of throwing them away. Need to use a smaller brusher for the small nook and crannies when cleaning? Use an old toothbrush. You can also re-use them for cleaning shoes or by even adding technique to art projects, for example, an antique rub. My top usage for old toothbrushes though is to clean my jewelry pieces. Super handy to have them in your kitchen cupboard with your cleaning products instead of throwing them out.
